    Beefy Vegetable Soup
Ingredients

3 c. barley
3 tsp. dry whole basil
6 bay leaves
1 1/2 tsp. dried whole oregano
1 1/2 tsp. black pepper
12 tbsp. beef bouillon granules
3 c. split peas, dry


Directions

Combine the first 5 ingredients. Separate into 6 equal portions. Add 2 tablespoons beef bouillon granules to each portion. Add 2 tablespoons split peas to each portion. Add 2 tablespoons barley to each portion. You can either combine the ingredients and store in a jar or airtight container or you can layer the ingredients in a jar.

Instructions for Beefy Vegetable Soup Mix:
In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Add 1 pound stew meat chunks. Saute the meat until it is brown. Add 6 cups water and Beefy Vegetable Soup Mix. Bring all to a boil then reduce the heat. Cover; simmer for 45 minutes. Add 3 chopped celery stalks, 3 chopped carrots and 3 chopped potatoes. Cover and simmer for at least 1 hour. Throw away bay leaf and serve. Delicious meal for a cold day.
